We all want to work at a company that has an inclusive and respectful workplace culture, but most of us aren’t in a leadership position – so are we doomed to accept the culture that exists? Or can we as ordinary employees use our story and voice to create positive change and an atmosphere that empowers us? There are a lot of talks and discussions for people in leadership positions, on how to cultivate a better workplace culture. While that is an important angle, most of us are just simple engineers and, we too want to contribute to an environment where everyone can be themselves and thrive. In my presentation, I want to show how being brutally open about mental health struggles, personal challenges and the societal pressures that each of us faces to different degrees, can positively influence the atmosphere of our workplace.
