/ Evolving from start-up to scale-up with APIs

Explore the intricate journey and choices, the tools and frameworks, and the successes and failures in exposing features via Public API for an established SaaS company. --- The journey of a SaaS start-up may at some point cross the path with the need to expose their services via a set of public APIs. When this happens, the team responsible for it faces a series of challenges specific to how the product and engineering team operate: if so far those teams were building for the SaaS product only, they now face the challenge of building something completely new for a completely different customer, with different collaboration needs across teams and departments. In this talk, we will hear the story of how Spendesk successfully brought to life their Public API while transitioning from start-up to scale-up, by looking at how we built on top of the existing product and tech, how we got the support and the contribution from other teams, and how we used this initiative to explore and introduce new technologies. We will share real-life examples from this journey, highlighting what was successful and what we would recommend not to do; we will share what are the tools and frameworks we chose and why; you will learn how to be effective in building an API-first culture in your organization through some examples for you to take inspiration and action from.
